By far the best way to learn a language is to become a better language learner, simple as that!
Many people advocate this method or that technique or some book or other. They all can be effective in teaching languages BUT will it enable learners to learn what you need to AND to keep learning once they have put that book down or finished the course?
Without improving their language learning prowess, learners can easily get stuck at a level that they will not be satisfied with. This is one of the most common complaints I hear about. Of course turning to an expert at times can help you get over some hurdles. However until they take responsibility for their learning, and start taking on some effective principles in learning, they will be destined not to reach their goal.
The following is a list of some of the posts I have written that address the issue of what it takes to become an effective language learner. Have a look at them and see what you can do with them as a teacher to help empower your students
Everyone wants to know the best way to teach a language but how many people like you are willing to take the time to find out about it. Not many. How do I know? All I need to do is to look at the poor rates of language learning success world wide and I can easily see. The path to it is not instantaneous but if you believe you can find it and persist, you surely will!
