Teaching Teenagers -- Le't Get Digital!

My first lecture at SEEC will be on Teaching "young adults", otherwise known as "teens". They can be both terribly energizing and terribly frustrating! I'll do my best to give you some tools to make your classroom a more "teenager" friendly place.

The lecture will focus on 4 components.

1. Identifying what is unique about teaching Korean teenagers (or any nationality) English. What are the challenges. See the 12 suggestions of Anderson and complete the task.

2. Identifying and discussing the digital divide in most cases between teachers and students.

3. Highlighting and demonstrating generic lessons that work with teens. Music / Movies / ME!!!!

4. Designing and developing a 10 min lesson activity using the Engage / Study / Activate lesson plan. Sharing that lesson idea!

This article is NOT required reading but you might find it useful. I certainly did. It really says some amazing things about teaching teens and just plain old good teaching! Motivation is key with teenagers!

It has simple, but effective tips to consider when working with teenagers. Great to hear. I just wanted to provide the teachers I was teaching in the TESOL course - some reflection on the characteristics of teen learners but in a very practical fashion.

Anderson's article is really good also.
