Karaoke is a great tool for any language teacher. It really helps with phonetic recognition (connecting text to speech - reading) and highly motivational. It also is adaptable and you can vary the speed, the context (pictures) , the presentation and even have students record.

Why use Karaoke in your classroom

Visit this discussion to get Gosing - where you can instantly have a very basic, traditional Karaoke player in your classroom.

The Karafun player is superb. Download it free HERE. Once installed, you have both A PLAYER and an EDITOR. Use the player to play files (.kfn) and the editor to make files. See this presentation and watch how I make a file with; A) an mp3 B) a transcript/lyrics C) a photo (s) . It really isn't difficult!

If your computer for some reason doesn't have Direct X 10 - download it here. The player needs this and most computers should have it already.

To download all the hundreds of FREE Karaoke files on EFL Classroom 2.0 - you will need to sign up or use the basic ID/PW - eflclassroom@mail.com / eflclassroom

Find below, many audio files and pictures that you can use to make a karaoke. You don't just have to make a song though!

Here are some story resources that you can use. Also visit Breaking News English. There, you will find many mp3s of short news items with a transcript and also exercises for students. Just find a great picture and you can make a great lesson!

Korean Karaoke is fantastic and it really motivates your students to see Koreans singing and speaking in English! Also, you can translate a song/speech etc... and display the translation in English script. See some examples below. Get many more on the EFL Classroom 2.0 karaoke page.

A good place to get translations of song lyrics is Aheeya.com Lots there already done. Also, on Youtube, many times the songs have Korean subtitles or lyrics in the "more info." area.

How do you get a song/mp3? I get them several ways. 1. Through Limewire. Download and install the free version and search using "artist" + Korean. 2. I download a video using Keepvid (just put in the Youtube address and download the .flv/mp4 video to your desktop). Then, using the Super Converter I "demux" - seperating the video and audio (select demux in the top left hand box) . I then have an audio of the song!

Attached is a karaoke file of "I Believe" from Sassy Girl. It is partly done. Could you (with your knowledge of Korean) finish it?
Just download and open it up in the Karaoke Editor. Start recording and fixing. Check the translation, is it good? Even change some pictures if you wish!

Your help is appreciated!!! { Also try to make a karaoke of "L-O-V-E" by Nat King Cole. Here (attached) is the version by Kim Hee Sun to inspire your students. Here is the original by the immortal Nat King Cole. love-nat king cole mp3.mp3

Don't want to make a news story karaoke or a Korean karaoke. No problem! Here are some more examples for you and I've attached some other mp3s that you can use to make a karaoke. Just search online for the lyrics/words and for pictures. Put it all in the Karaoke editor, mix and stir and BINGO! You have a great presentation!

The Karafun editor is also a great way to make a presentation of your students / school. Take many pictures, drop them in the editor and write words where you want them to appear. It makes a great slideshow!
